Modern Base Camp

The Trailhead cabin serves as a hub for an active family’s outdoor adventures in the Cascade Mountains. The simple two-bar layout is sited to minimize the impact on the surrounding trees, while connecting with a series of trails and outdoor recreation areas. A large, open living area provides a flexible family gathering area, while a more private and remote sleeping bar provides spaces to rest and recharge. Using simple materials - wood, metal and concrete - in an honest way, this contemporary cabin projects both warmth and permanence. Large glass doors and covered patios are coupled with concrete floors and wood panel ceilings that flow from the interior to the exterior to create a sense of continuity between indoor and outdoor spaces.
